Yes, it is unusual for your feet to occasionally smell like printer ink (which has a very strong type of smell).

I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they say.

I've only seen ink cartridges avaialble via auction on ebay, and honestly I wouldn't trust that. Who knows how old the cartridges are? If you are looking to cut your printer costs I'd recommend compatible or remanufactured cartridges, which are avaialble at hundreds of online sites. I always get mine at but also like Carrot Ink alot.

You dont say what printer you are looking for. Also, since March 2007 when the printer companies won the right to make their printers reject compatibles, a lot of the cheap cartridges stopped working. So what you really want are inexpensive cartridges with a guarantee. For Epson I go to They have cartridges for under $3 which hold 66% more ink and are guaranteed to work. I've been using them for years.

<a href="">Irene</a>

It does depend on the manufacturer but, generally speaking, compatible cartridges from a reputable printing supplies retailer will match or surpass OEM (namebrand) ink quality. For the most part, these inks are more than adequate for general household and office printing requirements. Couple that with the substantial savings in price and you can't go wrong.

In reality, few, if any OEM printer manufacturer actually makes their own ink anyway. Most of them get it from major suppliers who make it according to printer manufacturer specifications.

I've had an Epson Stylus 880 print head wear out after several years but for the most part, a throurough cleaning, regular usage and some preventive maintenance usually keeps them running shipshape.

If you're considering a new printer, be sure to check out your online options as many printer manufacturers provide clearance sections where you can buy a refurbished unit with a full warranty, get rebates and free delivery. Just be sure to check for availability of compatible cartridges before you make your purchase.

<a href="">Gertrude</a>

most of the time, printers will print very well with replacement cartridges, but it then, also, depends on the quality of the cartridge mfg.
as for printers declining after many years, it's a tough call. some of them work very well up until one day they don't work at all. but i think it depends on the mfg, and type of printer and even the amount of use they get.
something i would recommend is to take the printer apart and give it a real good cleaning. use lint free cloth, rubbing alcohol and qtips. lots and lots of newspaper. while you're in there, check and see if there are any signs of 'old age' that might impact the printing, such as loose or sloppy drive belts, excess inks which might just gunk up the insides, and such. if it still doesn't perform to your expectations, try a name brand cartridge and see if that helps. if it does, then you know that you should stick with them for better performance. if it doesn't, then maybe you need to start watching the sale flyers.
the no-name inks have a tendency to leave excess ink behind, but it has not been proven to my satisfaction, to say that they leave any more than the name brands.
so once you clean it up, keep an eye on it as you compare cart to cart.
so good luck and let us know how it goes.
